Folklife Collection - The Lore of the SSU Honor Student Association

by Salisbury University Students (1993)

1 folder (0.1 linear feet)

In 1993, former Salisbury University student Jim Hudson conducted a folklore field research. He looked into the folklore surrounding a newly formed Honors Student Association. Interested in the esoteric-exoteric aspect of this folkgroup, he started by debunking the stereotypes that honors students are a "bunch of nerds" getting together to talk about computers. As a matter of fact, this new association was mostly engaged into partying and field trips. They even came up with a new form of entertainment: " the party minutes" which report on the gossip and details of their parties and in which they refer to themselves by their costumes.
